Colorful citrus from our Summer Flea marketing photo shoot - ready to be made in cocktails!
Happy first weekend of summer!
It's "officially" summer and we're taking full advantage of the longer days and warm nights with lots of happy hours and meals enjoyed al fresco - when we're not planning for Summer Flea, that is. We've got another lovely weekend to look forward to here in Denver and are pretty stoked to pack in some early morning hikes, volleyball games at Wash Park and perhaps a cocktail (or three).
ALSO! Bike to Work Day is next Wednesday, June 27th - learn more, register and get ready to gear up by visiting the official website. Fun fact: Denver hosts the second largest Bike to Work Day in the US!
And with that, here's a list of some fun and interesting things our team is likin' and lovin' these days:
Summer BBQ season is upon us and Blake ordered this pig roasting spit to take his grilling game to the next level. Dont' have the room for a spit or a grill? A slow cooker can make stellar carnitas tacos, too.
We're all about that #balance, so we're totally into the idea behind FLOW + DOUGH. Let us explain - our favorite pop-up baker, Rebel Bread, is teaming up with BETTERISH on Saturday at Cheesman park to bring all y'all an hour of donation-based yoga, followed by a picnic of fresh bread and jams. We are IN.
Feeling artsy? (And by artsy, we mean going to look at other's people art). Check out the Happy City installations around the city, including the HQ located at Dairy Block and “Jump (Bring Us Together)" on Saturday and Sunday, which will bring an “inflatable dance party” (i.e. a HUGE bouncy house for adults, paired with DJs) to in front of the Oxford Hotel (17th and Wazee). Learn more with this piece by The Know.
From freshly-cut watermelon slices to a hot dog at a Rockies' game, there's lots of food that undeniably conjure up the taste of summer. The New York Times put together several fun, "highly-subjected" lists ranking the tastes of summer, from the best road trip snacks (beef jerkey, regional potato chips, peanut M&Ms...) to the greatest packaged frozen treats (Good Humor Strawberry Shortcake made the list and we couldn't agree more).
Megan's got her eye on this adorable navy polka dot set from Lucca Couture sold at local (and Flea vendor) shop, Billie.
Devon baked this blueberry olive oil cake with corn streusel last weekend and it was pretty bomb.
We'll likely be making one of these delicious and boozy summertime sippers starting pretty much…now—and of course, will save a few for festivities on the 4th.
Need something thought-provoking to read while chillin' poolside or at the park? Pick up Carlos Castaneda’s ‘The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge.
On the note of summertime reads, Devon has been reading Heart Talk by Cleo Wade for some inspirational poem and highly recommends it for those of you interestsed to ease into poetry.
In case you want to help the migrant children and families stuck at the border right now, Baby2Baby and Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) is taking donations through Target’s baby registry.
And if you want to do some good right here in Denver, check out Project Helping, an organization that offers unique volunteer experiences around town. Coming up: serve breakfast at Urban Peak Shelter or volunteer at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival.
For all of you fair skinned folks out there (Devon's raising her hand), Wirecutter did the hard work and determined the best sunscreen for everyday use - super important now that those summer rays are constant!
