Meet the Maker: Heart N’ Sleeve
Taylor Fleck created Heart N’ Sleeve, an upscale consignment shop, to be a socially conscience business on all fronts - namely through positively impacting the world through creating economic, social, and environmental value. This first-time Flea vendor gives 20% back to non-profits, and will be launching their website very soon - but, in the meantime, you shop Taylor’s expertly curated selection of clothing, accessories and more at the Fall Flea!
WHAT DOES YOUR BRAND MEAN TO YOU?
Heart N’ Sleeve fully encompasses my life - heartbreaks, setbacks, successes, and hidden opportunities I never thought to see before. The path that brought me here was not one of climbing a ladder, but rather one of falling off it. Through a series of health complications, medical bills, and years of recovery I found myself picking up the hobby of “flipping fashion and finding my passion”.
WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION FOR STARTING YOUR BRAND?
Heart N’ Sleeve is the lemonade from the lemons life has handed me in recent years. My inspiration was finding a way to channel my creative grind into my love for fashion all while giving back to a greater cause. I was fortunate enough to learn at a younger age that life is short and not to be taken for granted- and I’ll be damned if I was to consider spending my the rest of it working in an office just to make a living.
FIRST PRODUCT YOU CREATED?
While I don’t create my products from scratch, my business model first became inspired by selling my families old collection of retro, 80’s era ski clothes. Sorting through the neon colors that painted the memories of my childhood, I realized the lack of quality vintage apparel in the local fashion market.
HOW HAS YOUR BRAND EVOLVED OVER THE YEARS?
While we are still in our first year of conception, what started as a small side gig out of my parents basement has now grown to us doing our first vendor event with Denver Flea alongside preparation of the launch of our website.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE PRODUCT OR COLLECTION YOU'VE CREATED?
My favorite part of our inventory is anything neon, vintage and ski. It’s like finding the golden ticket whenever I come across one of those onesie ski suits- they can’t fly off the shelves quick enough!
what was your inspiration for starting your brand?
I wanted to build something that joined my love for the outdoors, adventure seeking and adrenaline with my love for live-able, comfortable fashion.
DO YOU FIND YOURSELF WORKING CONSISTENTLY WITH CERTAIN BRANDS?
Majority of our inventory is brands such as BCBG, Free People, Tahari, Kate Spade, Lululemon, Nike, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Joe’s Jeans, J. Brand, Seven Jeans, Alice & Olivia, J. Crew, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, French Connection.
WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO?
Heart N’ Sleeve has helped me create the life I dreamed of having in my 20’s. I get to spend my days traveling across the country in search of new inventory, meeting with new charities and learning about their causes. It’s humbled me in countless ways and brought me to some of the most beautiful corners of the Earth. Oh, and did I mention I get to spend my work hours shopping?
WHAT'S THE BEST PART OF YOUR DAY?
Definitely the fashion hunt. Going out, traveling across the country in searches of fun, fashion forward pieces.
BEST PART ABOUT BEING A COLORADO BRAND?
Being in the mountains has been tremendous in finding my favorite inventory pieces- the ski wear!
